Progress on Avatar of the Maker

My current work in progress is Avatar of the Maker, which adds to the Archetype novels Apocalypse, Reclaiming the Balance, and Whose Hearts are Mountains. I haven't published any of these novels yet, feeling a bit fearful about their fate. Yet I keep writing in that world because I'm so fascinated by it.


The Archetypes' world is of two realms: InterSpace, where most Archetypes spend a twilight existence; and Earthside, the world of humans, where most people do not know some of those around them are not human. Except for rare individuals, Archetypes don't visit Earthside. Their immortality and disproportionate strength would upset the balance of the humans' world.


Occasional Archetypes visit Earthside for good or bad, or usually neutral, reasons. Once Earth's population faced total destruction from a Triumvirate of Archetypes, and a small agricultural collective learned about an unexplained world hidden in plain sight. The end of the world as humans knew it takes place in Apocalypse.


The collective Barn Swallows' Dance has had their eyes opened to the presence of non-humans, as both Archetypes and the half-human Nephilim live there. When a woman asks for asylum from an Archetype trying to kill her, she falls down the rabbit hole to the world she tried to run away from. The collective is forced to confront their prejudices as they defend the woman from her assailant. This is the story of Reclaiming the Balance.


Years later, the United States has collapsed into disordered lands. A college professor without a college roams the remains of the country on the research project of her life. When adopted by a commune in the middle of the desert, she has to make a decision of whether she really wants to know the answer to her quest. This is the question of
